Garden, park & pool

Among the thousand or thereabout chateaux in Dordogne a large number are certainly grander and more spectacular than La Bourlie but we genuinely believe that La Bourlie occupies one of the most beautiful settings in the area. The château, surrounded by five hectares of park and gardens, is embedded in a large estate and our first neighbours are about a mile away, guaranteeing you real peace and tranquillity.

You have your own garden with the swimming pool set simply in the midst of a large lawn overlooking the stunning countryside. A couple of fine trees provide some shade for a snooze in the hammock and we have planted an aromatic garden for you to pick fresh herbs for your meals and tisane. Sunset is a lovely moment for a drink here or you may want to dine al fresco under the big oak tree.

La Bourlie's park invites you to stroll through its impressive alley of bicentenary topiaries and lime trees. They are interspersed with more than 150 different varieties of old roses and May is the month to be seduced by the rich fragrance and beauty of their bloom. But if you are here in summer or early autumn the park has a wealth of fruit and walnut trees ready to spoil you with their goods.

A walk in the surrounding woods is lovely at any moment of the year but it becomes a real raison d'être when the cèpes and chanterelles start showing up. And when most people suffer from grey winter day depression we are blessed with sunshine and it is truffle season!
